Advanced canoeist
I have been canoe tripping all of my life. I have been across much of Northern Ontario, Quebec, two 52 day canoe trips: the first, only travelling in the North West Territory's. The second in Saskatchewan, The North West Territories and Nunavut. I have also guided two seasons in New Zealand. Canoeing is my bread and butter, and I am very excited to have the skills and the certification to teach flat water and white water canoeing. During the summer months I work at Camp Wanapitei, Here I teach canoeing and lead month long canoe trips. As one of there canoe instructors I am responsible for the repair and maintenance of the canoes, allotting canoes for trips as well as teaching canoeing to the campers.
lake water
Something that really makes me smile is watching a student finally figure out the J-stroke. As one of the lead instructors at Camp Wanapitei I love watching our campers improve day by day and year by year.
White water
As an Instructor for both Wanapitei and the Madawaska Kanu Center I strive to give my students the best education that can offer. Starting off in the flat water I draw from my lake water instructor tool box to better critique my students. After I feel my students can adequately control the boat we progress to maneuvering in easy current.
Style Paddling
Although not an Paddle Canada instructor (I am a lake water instructor) yet I am training hard to become one. Most mornings wile in camp and after work (at Camp Wanapitei) I practice my skills. Honing in my dock landing, and circles and practicing advanced skills. I also help organise and participate in canoe ballet, I love working with fellow paddlers to create something beautiful.
Canoe Repair
One of the dutys as the canoe instructor for Camp Wanapitei is canoe repair. As one of the more knowlegeable members on staff I provide insite on projects, as well as give advice to those in need. I am currently putting together a manuel for canoe instruction and repair for the camp.
